Until Air Canada's summer preparedness team can source more radios and Pda's we are left to access the tool crib on the ramp. It is important to note that walk time at the beginning and the end of your shift to the tool crib is on company time. Streamline and management are aware that this extra step needs to be accounted for when putting together your daily duties. Rgds/on behalf of K. Waters.

Union Meeting | 12 APR 2018
Earlier today a general membership meeting was held at the Fairmont YVRAP. All topics were open for discussion and thank you for those who took the time to attend. Some of the takeaways from the meeting were as follows :
1) When calling in sick to the centralized time and attendance line you only need to provide your base, employee number and shift. You DO NOT need to discuss your illness or symptoms
2) New uniforms and policies described in the Airports Style Standards book may continue to evolve as we work towards summer. We are hopeful that after multiple washes the shirts won't be as starchy and the company's insistence men wear the vest and premium agents wear long sleeved shirts may be revisited.
3) The transborder lunchroom has been fumigated and new fridge ordered and paid for. Delivery should occur shortly.
4) Summer staffing and new employee training came up repeatedly and are areas of huge concern. Please familiarize yourself with break and rest period language under Article 6.05. Employees must work safely, take their breaks, following SOP's while offering top notch customer service. Management will not discipline due to lack of staffing or PSG delay codes but will without fail issue discipline letters when boarding errors occur or for each and every security breach.
5) It was agreed locked in premium bid causes anxiety and undue stress each shift bid due to Air Canada changing the rules and requirements for F/T and P/T. Ideally the union would like to remove the locked in provision or at least entertain moving the one year lock in to the spring bid instead of the fall bid.
6) Outside agents at domestic Jazz. Due to safety concerns and to prevent a catastrophic accident the Union will continue to pursue outside agents to oversee passenger boarding and deplaning at gates C32 - C38.
7) Blue RAIC employees including temp employees should be utilized in the various check in areas and not gate side. Kathy will be meeting with George in manpower to reiterate this point.
8) Planning your retirement is still scheduled for May 12th in New Westminster. For those interested in attending please contact Tim Cheung by Apr 30th.
9) Badging In .... Never, Ever badge in and then go park your car. This is company theft and the union will have little recourse to represent you.
10) New contract 2020 - we can expect expect proposal meetings in the fall of 2019 for the impending end of our contract on Feb 28/2020.
The collective agreement needs clear language and safeguards. Issues that need to be addressed include but are not limited to:
- one wage scale recognizing rising minimum wages across Canada, rising cost of living and a need to attract and retain new workers
- specific restrictions on the number of temps during peak seasons and the duties they can perform
- scheduling / empowering our cycling committee / day of movement

YVRAP District 101 update Top 10 | 07 FEB 2018
Earlier today a meeting took place involving Tim Cheung, Steve Murphy, Kathy Waters and all available union reps to discuss various issues occurring on the base. Some of the issues discussed were as follows :
1) Summer shift bid - Cycling will occur Feb 21/22/23 Shift bid to occur Mar 6/7/8 with Implementation - Apr 29th. There is an expectation of hiring both F/T and P/T. Once staffing numbers are confirmed these numbers will be published. As with everything shift bid related, these dates are subject to change.
2) Forced Overtime - there is no provision in our Collective agreement to force staff to stay against their will. This applies to F/T , P/T and probational employees.
3) L.O.U manpower/streamline and concierge positions - interviews will be taking place later this week and into next week.
4) PBS - or preferential bidding system will not be happening any time soon. This system which is used by CUPE cannot be modified in such a manner to respect our CBA and therefore we will continue to conduct our shift bid in the same manner as we have done so in the past.
5) Security Breaches - recently there has been a spike in security breaches. This includes boarding errors, doors proxied and left unattended and passengers accessing restricted areas of the airport. It is imperative to take our time, work safely while observing the company SOP's. Always remember no agent will be disciplined for a PSG delay code while security breaches always include a Letter of Reprimand on an agents file.
6) Cart driving - PLEASE SLOW DOWN ... Airport authority has given out 3 speeding tickets in the past week alone. Let's not give YVR any reason to argue they are the rightful owner to provide this service in a safe manner and lose our driving privileges!
7) Lunchrooms - for a room to be designated a lunchroom it must include a sink, fridge and microwave/oven. Therefore the North leads office and Transborder eating room/accounting room are technically not lunchrooms. Unifor has approached local management since the IAM successfully argued there should be a certain amount of space provided based on a per employee basis to have as an eating area. We may see our main lunchroom expanded or other spaces modified... stay tuned.
8) Minimum Wage - by the end of 2018 both Alberta and Ontario will raise their minimum wages to $15.00 per hour. Even though this will only apply to these two provinces its important for the company to be proactive and ensure any future wage increases (prior to our next bargaining in 2020) apply to all members hired after 2012, all across the country. Unifor will be having discussions with AC in the months ahead to address a fair and equitable way to ensure employees are recognized for their contributions based on time of service.
9) B1's - the union continues to be dead against any type of preferential boarding for pass holders. Unifor will be watching closely the upcoming CUPE arbitration with AC and proceed accordingly.
10) Breaks - it is well within everyone's right to, in a respectful manner, confront management when it comes to Article 6.05 also known as rest periods and meal breaks. Agents should never be expected to forfeit breaks and/or lunches and duties should never infringe upon rest periods.
Year End Tax Slips | 02 FEB 2018

Time loss and Attendance | 13 DEC 2017
As we near the end of the calendar year Air Canada employee reliability CSMs are reviewing time and attendance across the system for customer sales and service agents. Recently a handful of agents have been advised of a pending suspension. It should be noted that time and attendance suspensions only result after a multi step process which generally occurs over a lengthy period of time. If a pattern exists or the employee is trending without improvement this can ultimately lead to a suspension. For the vast majority of agents this message will not apply to your situation.

UNIFOR LOCAL 2002 DISABILITY TRUST FUND
GROUP INSURANCE DISABILITY INCOME PLAN (GIDIP)
GIDIP APPLICATION PROCESS FOR MEMBERS EMPLOYED BY AIR CANADA (CUSTOMER SALES & SERVICE; CREW SCHEDULING)
The Board of Trustees for the above noted plan has instructed Canadian Benefits Consulting Group as Plan Administrator for the plan to bring to your attention a potential concern that may be queried by the Members applying for GIDIP benefits.
In the past, HR Connex was responsible for preparing the GIDIP Short Term Disability Claim Form Applications and forwarding a package to each disabled Member (via mail) following the 6th day of the Member’s absence.
It has been brought to our attention that Air Canada has brought this process back in-house and is now handled by the Disability Management Team. Consequently, Air Canada has changed the process whereas:
Ø Following 14 consecutive days of the Member's absence, the Attendance & Disability Specialist will complete the Plan Sponsor Statement of the GIDIP Short Term Disability Claim Form Application and forward the completed Plan Sponsor Statement directly to the Plan Administrator (Canadian Benefits Consulting Group) via email; and
Ø The Attendance & Disability Specialist will email the GIDIP Short Term Disability Claim Form Application package to the Member via their Air Canada email address (a package will be mailed if requested by the Member).
Attached please find a GIDIP Application overview that you may want to post for Members to review.
The Board of Trustees thought it would be beneficial to let you know in the event that Members approach you and question the delay to process and receive their GIDIP Short Term Disability Claim Form Application package.

GIDIP: Air Canada (Customer Sales & Service; Crew Scheduling)
