UNDERSTANDING YOUR EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM - EAP
UNIFOR is concerned with the personal health and well-being of all employees and their families and recognizes that a wide range of personal problems may have an adverse effect on an employee's ability to perform on-the-job.
These problems may include physical illness, mental or emotional stress, marital or family problems, substance abuse, legal, debt, or other life-related problems. Almost any human problem can be successfully treated, provided it is identified in its early stages and a referral made to an appropriate treatment resource.
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is funded by the Company through the Employment Insurance Rebate and is designed to help employees resolve their problems through a process of assessment, referral and after-care.
Besides being strictly confidential, the Employee Assistance Program is voluntary and encourages individuals to seek help either directly through the Provider, Employee Assistance Coordinator, a Union Representative, a Supervisor or Work Mate.
Any decision on the part of an employee and/or family member to seek help or not, will not, in any way, interfere with the employee's position with respect to employment or promotional opportunities.
Any employee who partakes of the Substance Abuse and/or Employee and Family Assistance Program will be entitled to all rights and benefits provided to other employees who are sick, in addition to those specific services and assistance that the program may provide.
